AL COLE – NUXALK CARVER

Nuxalk artist Al Cole worked at his craft for over fifty years. His extensive experience and immense natural gift allowed him to create some of the finest works of Northwest Coast art in the world. He combined a vast knowledge of the history and culture of the Northwest Coast First Nations with his remarkable artistic ability to create meticulous, museum quality masks and rattles. He claimed the prerogative to carve these rattles from his shaman ancestors. The community of great Northwest Coast carvers suffered an immense loss with his passing in December of 2009.
